Our Little Baby Bird...

This past weekend was quite eventful at the Horton house. Mattie's cousins Tyler & Liam, and her Aunt Tiffany, came up to Stillwater and stayed the weekend with us. We had a great time and took them all to the Oklahoma Wondertorium Children's Museum. The boys loved it! They played in the treehouse, at the water tables, built a fort with blocks and lots of other things. George and I cannot wait to take little Mattie when she is old enough to play. She really seemed to enjoy herself and liked watching all the kids run around and play. She really is quite observant. She's starting to get upset when one of us leaves the room and notices all the comings and goings of the day. Today, Mattie and I were hanging out in the front room by the Christmas tree waiting for George to come home from tutoring. When he got home she was so excited, her face just lit up! She wanted him to carry her around, it was very cute.

We had lots of adventures with the boys while they were up. Saturday they helped me cook breakfast and dinner. Tyler & Liam really liked making pizzas and did a great job of putting the toppings on. Sunday they got to go to church with us, too.

The weekend was wonderful and we really enjoyed getting to see Tiff and the boys. Sunday night things definitely turned for the worse. We put Mattie down and at midnight she woke up with a stomach virus. George and I were up pretty much the entire night cleaning up after her and praying it would pass quickly. We took her to the doctor on Monday and by that evening she was feeling back to normal. I stayed home with her Tuesday so she wouldn't pass the virus along to Eleri's son, Henry. This was definitely not something we wanted to 'share' with others. :)

Lately, George and I have noticed that Mattie is spying on us when we're eating. She longingly gazes at us when we draw our utensils into our mouths. It is so cute. Tonight, I was eating some chicken noodle soup and she was staring at me so hard. It's like she was saying to me, "Give me a bite of that! I haven't eaten in weeks!" I cleaned my spoon and brought it to her mouth to see what she would do and she dropped her jaw so far just to get ready for it! So, we decided that it was probably time to give her some rice cereal. We got the high chair out and sat her down. She was so proud of herself sitting up. I got her cereal ready and gave her a bite. She was so ready for it! Just like a little baby bird waiting for her worm. It cracked us up how big she was acting and we could really tell she wanted to eat just like we were eating. So much fun. We got it on video and thought you might like to see, too :)

Say Cheese!

We have been having lots of fun with Mattie the past few weeks. We celebrated our first family thanksgiving. Mattie did really well and we enjoyed getting to see everyone.

Mattie is rolling over all the time now. She loves flipping over to her belly and pushing up. Her other new thing is sitting up almost on her own. She has great head control and loves looking around. I love how observant she is - always looking around. Her eyes follow us when we walk away or go into another room. She also is pushing up on her legs really well. Such a strong little girl! Here are a few more pics :)

Cutie Pie!

Had a great photo of Mattie tonight and it was too cute not to share. We are enjoying our time with our little girl and are looking forward to our extended Thanksgiving break. She is growing so fast. We had our four month checkup last week and she did great with her shots. She cried only a little bit and was smiling right after. She weighed 14 lbs. 6 oz. and was 25 inches long. She is still in the 75th percentile on growth for height and weight and is doing great. She is doing something new pretty much every day now. This week's highlights are continuing to roll over, reaching for food, almost sitting up on her own and laughing and smiling all the time.

Weekend Fun!

This past weekend was a busy one for the Horton family. We had a lot of Mattie firsts also. Friday night, we awoke to a very upset little girl. She was very congested and did not seem to be feeling well. So, we got the nose spray, humidifier and crib wedge out and tried to make her as comfortable as possible. By Saturday morning, she was back to her old self - thank goodness. We were glad to see she was doing better, it was pretty sad to see how miserable she was during the night. Her little wimper/cry was so pitiful!

Saturday afternoon, Grammy and Grandpa Horton came to town with the BIG orange grill for our tailgate. George left early to help them set up while Mattie and I got ready to go. When we got there, the tailgate was in full swing and everyone was enjoying Dan's brisket, ribs, corn on the cob and other goodies. We had a great time and took shelter from the wind in the Harris' orange bus. George went to the game and Mattie and I went home to watch it on the couch and have a girl's night.

I stayed up to watch the Cowboys beat K-State in a nailbiter game. I was on edge the whole time - it was back and forth the whole 4 quarters. Right after the game got over we had a big earthquake in Stillwater. It was incredibly scary. The windows and doors were rattling and the whole house shook. I was on the couch when it happened and Mattie was asleep in her pack and play. It didn't wake her up, surprisingly. I wasn't sure what to do in that scenario. What are you supposed to do during an earthquake? I know stop-drop-and roll, I know where to hide in a tornado...But an earthquake? In Oklahoma? Let's just say I was pretty confused :)

So, this weekend Mattie 'celebrated' her first sickness (kind of), earthquake and.... ROLLING OVER! :) It was very exciting yesterday afternoon. She has been rolling onto her side for a few weeks now but finally took the full roll on Sunday afternoon. George and I were both there and it was so neat to watch her push herself. She was pretty happy with herself and is also pushing up really well with her hands. We are just so proud of her!

Here is another great video that Eleri took this past week. I am so thankful for a caregiver that captures these sweet moments while I am at work!

Our little talker - Happy four months!

So, today, Mattie Gail Horton is FOUR MONTHS OLD! It is crazy to think that we met her only four months ago today. She is the light of our life and is such a joy to be around. We are having fun getting to know her.

Each week brings new discoveries and adventures. This week, she is talking like crazy. Squeals, shrieks, blowing bubbles, you name it. Mattie's wonderful caregiver, Eleri, took this video of her this week. See her in action for yourself:::

This week, we also celebrated little M's first Halloween. Thanks to her wonderful grandmothers we had two adorable costumes to put on! Unfortunately, we think Mattie is teething and it put a kink in our plan to have her put on both costumes. She got the first one on (Tinkerbell) - and it was so cute! We are going to bring out the other adorable tiger costume this weekend for the K State game tailgate since it is ORANGE and BLACK (the best colors :))

WOW...Time Flies!

Well, it has been quite a while since we have posted to the blog. We have been very busy with getting back to work and football season this past month. George's 9th grade team is doing awesome. They are 6-1 and will probably win their seventh game tonight!

Going back to work has not been easy but having Mattie's caregiver, Eleri, has been a God-send. She does an amazing job with our little girl and takes care of her as if she were her own. Everyday she keeps a log called "Mattie's Daily Diary" for me with the times she ate, slept, played, etc. It has really helped to know what her day looks like and also helps me when I get home so I know where we are at on our schedule. Mattie has a lot of fun at her house, especially since she gets to play with Eleri's handsome son, Henry! :)

George and I have celebrated many firsts with Mattie this past month. She had her first real laugh (with Nana), grabbed a toy, sucked her thumb, rolled over in her sleep and took her first road trip with just Momma. She handled the road trip like a champ and slept the whole way to Oklahoma City, stopped and ate, then slept all the way to Lawton. I know it won't always be that way, but it sure was nice! In September we also had a first that was not so fun - me spending a few nights away from Mattie & George. I had a once in a lifetime work trip to attend an executive briefing at Apple headquarters in Cupertino, CA. It was a very educational trip - and fast! I was so worried about going and making sure Mattie would still want to hang out with me when I got back. Of course, she picked up right where we left off and seemed to handle it better than I did. George did an amazing job of taking care of her (he always does).  :)

When we traveled down to Lawton, Mattie and I went to George's football game against Lawton High and got to hang out with the whole family. Everyone got together to celebrate George's birthday after the game. It was lots of fun. Special thanks to Dan & Saradell for the awesome birthday banner and burgers! And thanks to Aunt Sharon for the hundreds of cupcakes she made. They were delicious! We were so excited to get to see cousins Tyler, Liam, Lincoln and Stran at the game, too. Aunt Deedee, Aunt MaryBeth, Aunt Tiffany and Uncle Erik were there to help celebrate as well.

On the afternoon of the game, we had the privilege of having another photo shoot with the wonderful Mike Mazzo. He was so patient when photographing our wild bunch! He got some great shots of Mattie and me - I love them! A few for you to see:

Here in a few weeks we will be celebrating Mattie's 4-month birthday. It is hard to believe that she is almost four months old already! She is such an amazing little girl and changes everyday. George and I are so blessed to be her parents and are so thankful for her. She has been sleeping through the night for the most part since she was 8 weeks old. She knows exactly what her Momma needs to make life easier :)

We hope each of you are well. Have a wonderful week!
Love,
The Hortons

Say "O"

I almost forgot! Mattie did something so cute this weekend- she started mimicking sounds we make. George was teaching her to say O-S-U and saying "O" over and over. All of a sudden she said it too! Hear it for yourself below. We had so much fun hearing her use her little voice :)

Off to work we go...

Well, the time has come folks. I return to work full-time tomorrow. I have been cherishing these last few days with our little cutie pie. Mattie is growing up so fast! My parents came up this weekend and we had a great visit. Also, Mattie will be attending her first Pioneer football game tonight to cheer on her Daddy!

We had Mattie's two month check up this morning and everything went well. She was a trooper and got 3 shots. She is in 75 percentile for height and weight! 23" and 11lb6oz :) The doctor was very pleased with her progress and said she's a very healthy girl! We are thrilled.

We hope each of you has an awesome week!

Much love,
The Hortons

Horton Family Update

Greetings!

Well, the weeks have been flying by and we are having a great time with little Mattie. She is so precious and continues to amaze us everyday. This past week, she has really started cooing and talking to us. Her best time is always in the morning when she wakes up. I think God knew that since I was NOT a morning person, that I needed a little help to get me up and going. Well, this little chick helps me out with that! We have so much fun waking up and talking to each other. I thought you all might like to see what a pleasant person she is - see video below:

This coming weekend our little one will be two months old. We cannot believe how quickly she is growing up and changing everyday. Her recent milestones are sucking on her hands, making good eye contact, responding to sounds/words, LOTS of talking/cooing, and sleeping in longer stretches - hooray! She is getting bigger and bigger and George and I's arms are getting more and more tired. We are definitely going to have to beef up to keep up with this one's growth and increasing weight! She has her 2-month check up next week and we are very curious to see how much weight she's gained the past month. Judging by her wrinkles and crevices, it will be quite a bit. ;)

I have gone back to work part time and am getting back into the swing of things. It's very hard to be away from Mattie but I am glad that she is in the care of a trusted friend while I'm away. This week marks my last week before I go back to work full-time. Prayers are appreciated!

George's first football game of the season is tomorrow night. Today, he dressed her up for church in her best Pioneer gear (Courtesy of JoAnn Cochran!) to get ready to cheer on the team. GO 'NEERS!
