Mattie's here!

The past few weeks have flown by and we are having a great time getting to know our little daughter. We had a great labor and delivery and will be sharing the story soon. This experience has shown us  how truly blessed we are in the family and friends department. We cannot thank everyone enough for their love and support during this exciting time in our lives. Our parents have been especially helpful in making sure that we have everything we need. We hope we can take care of little Mattie as well as they have taken care of us! Here is a short video to catch you up to speed on how things have been going so far :)

Mattie is such a precious gift and nothing could have prepared us for how much we love her and adore her! Every day is a new adventure and she has grown so much already. We had her two week check-up yesterday and she had gained a pound in a week and a half! Our pediatrician said this was great news and we set up her appointment for her 2-month check up and first set of immunizations.

So far, we have been adjusting to all the changes that parenting brings to the house. There are an abundance of diapers and wipes, blankets, all kinds of soft things and cute outfits, of course (shoes included). Mattie has survived two infant photo shoots and did remarkably well. We find ourselves just staring at her and discussing how cute she is, as well as what she is and is not allowed to do when she gets older. George and I have already grown quite protective of this little chick. I find myself jolting out of bed at night just to touch her and make sure she's ok. For those of you that know me and my "bear-like" sleeping habits, this is definitely a change from the norm.  She is sleeping well in her basinet next to my side of the bed and is waking up every 3-4 hours which is awesome. (I never thought I'd say 3-4 hours of sleep would be awesome, ha!)

We ventured out of the house for Mattie's first trip to Lowe's yesterday because we had to purchase some lights and mirrors for the bathroom. Our master bath countertops were installed today and they look amazing! (pics to come)  We now have a fully-functioning master bath and not a moment too soon. So, the projects are over for the most part. George and the crew finished our roof the day before Mattie was born and it is beautiful. The new siding and roof have completely transformed the outside of our house. Before Mattie was born, George and I actually discussed whether or not we were crazy or just ambitious.   I have to admit, I was leaning a little towards the "crazy" argument. Over the past year, we have demo-ed and renovated so many parts of our home that one would think we weren't 'all there' upstairs. But, now that our daughter is here and we have our home how we like it, all the hard work has paid off. We have a comfortable living space that suits our taste and Mattie does not have to live with or be around the dust that renovations bring.

Well, that's a quick update of how things have been going for us. We have a lot more to share and will post soon. Love, The Hortons
