Hooray for progress!

Well, today was the big day! Our closet and bathroom vanity were installed and everything looks amazing! We still need to clean up all the dust and wood chips, but it is almost ready to move back downstairs. This week we'll be picking out the vanity top and sink and hopefully finish up the bathroom. Higher quality photos will follow, but we wanted to share today's progress with everyone :)

Week 29 & 30 Update

Whew! The past few weeks have flown by! I have had several projects due and exams to wrap up my LAST SEMESTER of grad school. Ever! Needless to say, I'm pretty excited about my upcoming graduation (and so is George!) Things are starting to calm down a little bit and we were able to go to Lawton this weekend to visit family for Easter.

Yesterday we celebrated Easter as a family and had a great time hunting eggs with our four nephews.  Although it was a little rainy, it didn't slow them down! Tyler, Liam, Lincoln and Stran seemed to have a great time searching for eggs, and it was a lot of fun to watch.

After the egg hunt in Grandpa Dan's barn, we headed over to the Marple house for a family cookout.  We got to play with the boys and Liam kept pointing at my belly saying, "You have baby?" Apparently he has been asking a lot of people this question.  Then, when they say no, he says, "My Mimi has baby in her tummy!" How cute!  He also told me he has a baby in his tummy last night so we will have to see about that - ha!

Baby Horton is doing extremely well.  She is very active and is exploring my ribs on a daily basis now.  Today we had a family 4D ultrasound before we left Lawton and it was amazing.  We caught her sucking her thumb, playing with her feet, and relaxing with her hand behind her head.  We even got to see her hair!  I didn't realize you could tell if they had hair or not in the womb, but she definitely does!  It was a neat experience to share with our family - everyone got to see her up close and in person.  At first, she wasn't cooperating very well and kept hiding her face.  The technician had me go to the restroom to see if it helped, and that seemed to do the trick.  When I came back we got lots of great photos of her.

After the ultrasound, we rushed out of town to get home in time for our afternoon appointment with Dr. Henry - but not without stopping at Wayne's Drive Inn first! :)  Things went well with the check-up.  Dr. Henry said everything looks great and is progressing the way it should.  We are going to start going in every two weeks from this point forward.  He also gave us information on childbirth classes here in Stillwater.
30 Weeks!
30 Weeks and feeling great!
Last but not least, the house is ALMOST DONE!!!  We have the closet and vanity installation scheduled and have been able to move our furniture back downstairs.  It feels so good to be on the final stretch of house projects.  All that we have left is to order the vanity top, have plumbing fixtures hooked up and carpet the stairs.  Woohoo!  :)  We will post pics this week after all the woodwork is installed.

Have a great week!

Week 28 Update

This weekend George and I made lots of progress on the house.  We organized the upstairs like crazy to get ready for Baby H.  Since our master bedroom/bathroom/closet will soon be ready, we decided it was time to shift around the guest beds up stairs and clear out the baby's room to make way for her furniture.  We spent all day Saturday cleaning out the office, moving boxes around, dusting, sweeping and cleaning the floors.  It was lots of "fun".  Last night George put together Baby H's crib and bassinet that Nana and Papa Marple got for her.  It was very exciting to see the furniture in her room and get things going.  We also set up her bookshelf and will start organizing her things soon.

I have been feeling great this week but have started to notice that my body doesn't let me do as much as I used to.  Bending over is not too much of an option anymore if I'm doing it by myself.  This morning I went to the doctor to get an Rh injection since I am Rh negative.  This will ensure that the baby will be safe if George's blood type is Rh positive.  I was a little nervous, but the shot didn't hurt at all.  We have our next monthly check-up two weeks from today.  Baby H has been doing great.  She is still moving around all the time.  She now weighs almost 2.5 pounds and is over 15 inches long.  She has started to "explore" my ribs which is pretty interesting.  Luckily she is pretty still through the night so I am still able to sleep pretty good each night.  Below is a belly update for everyone:

The house is going VERY well.  The closet staining will be finished this week and should be installed at the beginning of next week.  The bathroom tile is nearly finished and once that's done we can set the vanity, toilet and fixtures.  Before you know it I won't have any big house updates! (Which I am looking forward to!)

We hope you all have a wonderful week!

Good news!

Yesterday was a great day for the Horton family!  We got the all-clear from Dr. Henry's office that my glucose results looked great.  This was a big relief for both of us and means that all is moving along well and Baby H is healthy!  It is also great news for me because it means that I will not have to limit my intake of sugar in the near future - ha! :)  It's very important for pregnant women like me to eat their ice cream.  (Or so I've been told)

Another big development is that our closet got delivered yesterday.  Woohoo!  A guy is coming up tomorrow to begin the staining and wood finishing process.  If there are no issues that come up, the closet will be installed next week!  Some other projects that will be going on this weekend at the Horton casa:

  • On Friday Dan is coming back up to help George finish the floor and install baseboards downstairs
  • Install bedroom door
  • Lay floor tile in bathroom and finish shower tile
  • Re-organize furniture upstairs and get ready for Baby H's furniture delivery :)
So, lots of progress going on around here and it is very exciting.  Our kind neighbors Joe & Lacey also came over this past weekend to plant our 'community' garden and we can't wait to taste the fruits of everyone's labor this summer.

Well, that's it for now.  We'll be posting an update this weekend so everyone can see how Baby Horton (and me) are growing.

Hope you have a great rest of the week!

Week 27 Update

This week definitely had its ups and its downs.  We'll start with the downs...

As we posted last week, I had my glucose test on Monday.  Unfortunately, my sugars came back a little high and I had to come back in on Friday for the 3-hour glucose test.  This test is more intense and requires fasting beforehand.  When you get to the doctor they draw blood for a pre-test sample and then have you drink a concentrated orange drink (which apparently is stronger than the first test's drink), and then draw your blood every hour for the next three hours.  Luckily, my doctor's office has a super comfy couch and even has pillows and blankets for people who are doing this test.  So, I kicked back in between and studied and kept up with work e-mails.  Overall, it really wasn't that bad.  But - I could have gone without having my blood drawn four times in one day :)  We'll find out the results of the test tomorrow which I'm sure will be fine.  I'm not too worried about it so we'll see what happens!

Now for the ups! :)
This week I have begun to notice how big Baby H is getting.  There are times when she kicks that I can feel part of her move on my right said and another part of her pushing against me on the left.  According to BabyCenter, she weighs about two pounds and is 15 inches long!  My feet have begun to swell a little if I am on my feet a lot during the day.  It's really not uncomfortable at this point, but I'm sure that will change!

We have decided on baby furniture finally and it feels good to make a decision! Say hello to the future home of our little girl:
Insert Baby Horton Here :)
We can't wait to see her cute little face in it!

Now, here we are!  Me and little girl Horton at 27 weeks and growing strong!

The house is going extremely well.  Our closet and bathroom vanity will be delivered this week and the tile should be wrapped up as well.  This weekend Grandpa Dan came back up to help George finish the living room floor.  The two did an outstanding job on the floor and knocked it all out yesterday.  Dan's tools really help to speed the job along!  Below are some pictures of their handywork.

Last but not least, a "Before & After" photo to remind us of how far things have come and that we are so close to the finish line on these renovations!  We can't wait!
